I would like to share with you one of my most recent experiences where homeopathy played a major role in my horse’s health and life.
I have a 30+ year old quarter horse gelding named Dino. Because of the heavy snows and frigid cold, I was prompted to feed additional hay.
In that the horses, can’t get around as much in these weather conditions. They tend to stand in one place, eat their fill and perhaps neglect drinking the water required under these conditions.
Senior horses, like our senior humans, have a tendency to have less than efficient digestive systems and teeth that might not be as functional. This entire combination added up to a horse that was “impacted.” Food going in , but not coming out.
For 2 days Dino didn’t defecate. This could be catastrophic for a horse.
I tried treating Dino myself and gave the following homeopathic remedies, which helped in easing the pain and keeping him in balance, but didn’t eradicate the problem.
I gave each a try for 2 hours, giving a few doses each hour of: Arsenicum 30C, Aconite 30C, Hepar sulphuris 30C, Nux Vomica 30C, Silica 30C, Bryonia 30C, Cinchona (China) 30C. Opium 30C, Magnesia phosphorica 30C, and Belladonna 30C.
With no defecation results from these remedies, we had no choice but to opt for the conventional vet and tubing Dino with a laxative.
This proved to “unblock” the blockage and one of the remedies that we followed up with after we shared our situation with Manfred was Lycopodium 30C.
The conventional vet was somewhat amazed that after 2 days of blockage and a horse that for all intense purposes had stopped eating and drinking, that his heart rate was close to normal and he showed no real signs of dehydration.
Of course, we all know that homeopathy bridged the gap, and made the entire transition better with less discomfort and more positive results.
