Make Your Own Hand Sanitizer: Recipe

Hand sanitizers are, in principle, a good idea. But the ingredients in most commercially available ones contain a toxic soup of chemicals, fragrances, dyes and preservatives. Why put harmful, immune lowering chemicals on your skin – the very same skin which so readily absorbs toxins into your blood stream?! After all, the purpose of hand sanitizer is to help boost your immune system, not burden it!

There is growing evidence that washing and sanitizing your skin too much:

1. Reduces your first defense immunity by removing helpful bacteria from the skin
2. Removes the skin’s protective oil barrier which causes the skin to become more absorbent[1] of harmful influences like toxins and bacteria
3. Causes your skin to become more absorbent than what is normal by the inclusion of certain chemical that cause “penetration” or “permeation” into the cells

For a little money, you can make your own hand sanitizer, and lots of it. Many of you will already have these ingredients on hand (no pun intended). As an added benefit, your homemade hand sanitizer will contain no chemicals like triclosan that lower your immune function; no fragrances that desensitize your olfactory (nasal) nerve or cause excitement of your neurons; and no dyes or harmful preservatives!

Simple. Cheap. Effective. Sign me up!

HAND SANITIZER RECIPE

• 4-10 drops unscented liquid castile soap (use more if you use a 2 oz bottle or bigger, less for smaller ones. You don’t want “suds”, you just want a bit of cleaning)
• filtered water
• grain alcohol

Using a small container (1/2oz to 2oz size), add your soap and fill the bottle 1/3 full of water. Fill the rest with grain alcohol. Gently shake the ingredients together and use as needed for cleaner hands.

You can use the same alcohol you use to preserve your homeopathic remedies. If you want to be really pure, I’d use Organic Vodka, that way you avoid all pesticides, possible GMO’s and other harmful substances. In fact, if use that same Organic Vodka in your remedies if you are taking drop doses!!! Plus, don’t use Isopropyl alcohol. It’s poisonous and is readily absorbed through the skin.

Other Uses for Homemade Hand Sanitizer

• Remove unwanted fragrances from your hands such as when you have just used a shopping cart and unwillingly gotten someone else’s lotion or perfume all over your hands! YUK!!
• Keep a few tissues in your pocket, squeeze some of the sanitizer into it and wipe down shopping cart handles, telephones, computer doorknobs, toilet seats and more before use
• After you have handled cash and your hands stink of old lady perfume, aftershave and BO
• Great for those who are diagnosed with Multiple Chemical Sensitivities (MCS), or even if you just suffer from mild chemical sensitivities and who want unscented sanitizer.
• Wipe down the table when you go out to eat
• I’m sure you’ll think of other ways to use it!

If you are having trouble locating suitable containers for your handsanitzer, try the “travel size” section at the drug store; look at your local health food store in the bulk herb or Health & Beauty department, or shop online.
