Worried About Alcohol In Remedies Or Mother Tinctures?
Some of you may wish to avoid alcohol altogether either for sensitivity
issues or otherwise. Here are a few tips on how to do this:
For Remedies:
- Mix your remedies with distilled water only (leave out the alcohol).
This will shorten their shelf life considerably, especially in the
warmer months. If you see anything “floating” in your bottle or if it
smells “off”, sour, moldy, etc., it’s time to make a new remedy from a
fresh pellet.
- Make sure to keep your remedies in a cool place (but not in the
refrigerator). This will help preserve their potency and freshness.
- Take olfactory (“sniff”) doses. This way you will avoid consuming the
alcohol altogether. Personally, even though we take olfactory doses, we
prefer to leave the alcohol in so we can “smell” something when we take
a remedy. However, olfactory doses may not be an option for some people
as you may need stronger dose (drop dose).
For tinctures, to remove the alcohol:
- Boil drinking water. Pour about 1-2 oz of it into a cup and drop the
designated amount of tincture into the cup. Let it sit a few minutes.
Either sip this or dump it into juice and drink. The boiling water
should evaporate off the alcohol from the tincture.
A Victory for Freedom of Education
Did you hear about the German family who were arrested by the German government for not sending their five children to public school? They believed the school system was incorporating concepts and ideas that were not in-line with their beliefs and they asserted their rights to home-school their children. Fifty families showed up in their support, and ultimately the government had to back down. By that time the family was granted political asylum in the US (in Tennessee) where
they live now. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/germany/7080790/German-homeschoolers-granted-political-asylum-in-US.html
Three Reasons Why Remedies Don’t Work
1.Clarice, 48, had complaints of anger, plantar fasciitis and pre-menopausal symptoms. She had been in treatment for 6 months, was progressing well and noticing substantial improvement while on homeopathic remedies. About 4 days before her 3 week follow- up consultation she called and reported, “Now, I don’t know what’s going on, but these remedies aren’t working this time. I’ve seen no improvement and I don’t know what’s wrong!”
“Well Clarice, this is strange, let me take a look at your chart.”
I pulled out her chart, and we began to go over her remedies. She confirmed that she had received all the ones I mentioned; she was on the correct potency and dose; she took them at the designated time; and we couldn’t detect any evidence of the bottles being antidoted or any new antidotal product being introduced into her environment.
I said, “Clarice, I’m going to ask you something very stupid, but here it goes – did you add the pellets to the bottles from the little envelopes?”
She thought about it for a second, and then I heard a rustling of packaging and papers.
“OH MY GOSH! I never put the pellets into the bottles! I feel like an idiot!”
2. At the end an evening out with the family, I noticed our daughter S, age 5,
was becoming weepy and kept asking for hugs (if you know S, you know this is unusual behavior for her!). Recognizing the symptoms of Pulsatilla,
I gave her a dose despite being surrounded by cellphones which could shorten
the duration of the action of the remedy. I have my remedy box
organized so that I can easily, by feel, reach into the box and grab what I
need without looking and this comes in handy in the dark in middle of the night, when out and about and when you are trying not to draw attention to what you are doing!
About 20 minutes later we left and although she was better, she was still not “right.” I figured she’d either need another dose or she was very tired. We got into the car for the 25 minute drive home and on the way we stopped at the store to pick up a few items. I stayed in the car with the children since our son M was already asleep.
At this point, S was uncomfortable and complaining about her knee hurting and how she wanted to lay down and go to sleep (but her new car seat wasn’t allowing her to get comfortable). So I invited her to the front seat and gave her Pulsatilla again, but this time nothing happened. She kept complaining about her knee (a recurrent complaint) and I gave her a dose of Ledum, with no result. Both remedies have always worked in the past.
Meanwhile she was becoming more and more weepy and she soon became hysterical and said she couldn’t calm down nor stop crying. Thinking all the cellphones had created an obstacle to cure, I gave her a dose of Cellphone 30C and repeated the Ledum. Still no results.
By then, Manfred arrived back from the store and I told him the situation. He matter-of-factly recommended Pulsatilla.
I said in disbelief, “OK, I guess I’ll try it again.”
This time I actually turned on the light and LOOKED into the box. To my consternation I discovered that I had been giving her Rhus toxicodendron thinking it was Pulsatilla! It had moved into the Pulsatilla spot in the box, and I hadn’t even noticed! Well, in less than 5 minutes she went from hysterical screaming to crying to whining softly to falling asleep!
3. Debbi, a veteran homeopathic client, called the other evening.
Her seven year-old daughter Maggie had an acute earache. She had had an upper respiratory infection with a runny nose and fever for a day or two, which Debbi had handled successfully by giving Maggie the appropriate homeopathic remedies. However, tonight Maggie was developing intense pain in her right ear and Debbi was on the verge of taking her to the ER.
Maggie had had this problem twice over the past several years.
The first time she had throbbing pains worse from lying down, with
blocked Eustachian tubes and thick sticky nasal discharge. Alternating Bell. and Kali-bi. had stopped the pain and assured a speedy recovery. Two years later Maggie had another episode where she was beside her self with pain, again with sticky discharge, and this time, Kali-bi. and Cham. fit the case
and had worked like a dream.
Tonight Debbi was frustrated. She had already tried three remedies, but to no avail. As I was noting down the detailed symptoms I asked if the pain was better or worse from warmth or from cold applications. She said, “It’s better from warmth. In fact, Maggie is sitting here with a heating pad over her ear.”
An electric heating pad?
Okay, do you have the remedy EMF?
“No. Why?”
A heating pad produces significant EMF radiation. It will quickly antidote whatever remedy you give. You can give her a hot water bottle to hold on her ear. You are giving her the right remedies. Take away the heating pad and try them again. Give a dose every half hour and repotentize it after ten doses.
Debbi called back around ten PM. She was calling to asking directions on how to potentize the 30C remedies to 31C so she could give them if needed again. I gave her the directions and asked how Maggie was doing.
“Oh, her pain is completely gone. I feel so bad not to remember the EMF exposure from the heating pad, as you have explained this to me many times before.”
Conclusion: For homeopathy to work you have to (a) actually give the remedy, (b) give the right remedy, and (c) refrain from antidoting it.
It’s Easier To Take Your Remedies Than You Think!
In an ongoing effort to help you and your family take your remedies on time, we have a new program and some helpful tips:
1. Keep up with your busy schedule with a Portable Tin! These cute little metal boxes easily hold up to FIVE 1/2 oz (the standard size) dropper bottles so you can take your mid-day remedy(s) out of the house with you! Do you take remedies in dosage cups? These tins can even hold multiple 3-oz Dixie Cups along with 1 or 2 remedy bottles! For extra protection, you can line these tins with aluminum foil (be sure to create a proper seal) to protect the remedies even further. Remember, remedies are susceptible to temperatures below freezing and above 120 degrees F.
2. COMING SOON! Sign up for the “Take Your Remedies” Club! Email reminders will be sent out 6 times a month to remind you to make and take your remedies, to prepare your bottles in advance and to record your symptoms. We will also send out periodic emails allowing you to opt-in at anytime. (coming soon!)
3. Remember, liquid remedies are antidoted by X-Rays and airplane flights (presumably from the high vibrations from the engines) so if you plan on traveling with remedies, travel with them in pellet form, avoid X-rays of your pellet remedies if you can, and mix them in water when you arrive at your destination.
4. Give remedies to sleeping children before you retire for the night. Many times parents will not be able to give a child all their remedies in between work, school, meals, homework, etc. However, many parents will find it helpful to give their child a remedy while the child is sleeping to get that final remedy in before the day is over (Carcinosin is a good one to do this with).
For example, in our household, we are all on the same level of Carcinosin and we all take it in different dosages. So instead of mixing it twice or letting it sit around so it can be spilled, forgotten or worse yet, the order of the cups be confused, I give it to the children when I go to bed (when I take it myself). Don’t risk making a huge mess or pouring it up their nose (yes I’ve done this before!). For a drop dose, simply pull back their lip and put the drop into their mouth (don’t worry if it goes in or not, just give it to them!). For a straight olfactory dose, simply hold the dropper itself under their nose (no dripping this way). For a dosage cup dose, take a tissue and twist it into a “stick” shape, insert the tip into the proper dosage cup and then hold the wetted tissue under their nose until they breath (or touch under their nose or dab their forehead with it).
Homeopathic Pellets Don’t Expire
We recently spoke with a woman who lamented that she no longer had her remedy kit. When asked why, she promptly responded, “Well, according to the dates on the package it had expired!”
Sadly, most people don’t realize that homeopathic remedies in pellet form really don’t expire. They can last for 100 years or more! Manfred once bought remedies from an estate of a deceased homeopath. The remedies were estimated to be at least 80 years old. On many occasions, he tested the remedies and they worked just as well as the newer ones.
Then why are there expiration dates on the packages? According to FDA regulations, homeopathic remedies are required to have expiration dates, “indications” (hence the one symptom listed on the package of single remedies) and directions for use (which are arbitrary and we personally do not practice in that way nor do we recommend that people follow those instructions).
So how do I keep my homeopathic pellets good for a lifetime?
- Keep the remedies in a cool, dry place (not in the refrigerator). If you are keeping pellets in little envelopes, store them in a tightly sealed container such as a glass jar or other airtight container.
- Protect them from strong scents like essential oils, scented candles and perfumes, Lysol, mint/menthol/etc., Listerine or other mouthwashes cigarette smoke, hair products, etc.
- Keep the remedies protected from extreme temperatures- above 120 F and below freezing.
If you have a doubt about the condition of your remedies, you can always call us and ask. Sometimes, experimentation will be the only way to tell for sure whether or not they are still potent.
