Many years ago, I, too, fell prey to the promise that orthodontic science could give me a beautiful new smile. During my high-school years, I was fitted with a mouth-full of lovely metal braces. Back then, the only option my orthodontist gave me was metal brackets mounted on the front of my teeth…and let’s not talk about rubber bands, spacers, expanders and retainers!
A Pain In The…Face!
These days, there are many more options to move those pearly-whites into a more pleasing alignment. No matter what kind you get – braces, retainers, “invis-align”, etc, – teeth repositioning can be very painful.
When my orthodontist first installed my braces, my teeth were terribly sore. This soreness is caused by an inflammatory response by your body to a perceived trauma, i.e. unnaturally moving your teeth with braces. My teeth became so sore that I could barely swallow liquids the first day after installation. I was unable to brush my teeth for several days and was on a liquid diet for almost a week! Every “adjustment” (where they tighten your braces) caused enough pain for me to resort to taking painkillers like Tylenol (Acetaminophen, Paracetamol) and Motrin (Ibuprofen).
The consequence of resorting to pain killers is that these drugs put a huge toxic burden on your liver, they lower your immune system and can do long term damage the kidneys, heart and cardiovascular system – damage you may not notice until many years down the road. And by then, it’s too late. You could be diagnosed with some degenerative disorder of “unknown” origin. Most doctors will never think to examine the side effects of the both the OTC and prescription pharmaceutical drugs you have taken in the past nor will they know what to do with this knowledge. Our homeopathic clinic specializes in helping those suffering from drug side effects! Learn more about “The Mueller Method” of homeopathy. But I digress…
Homeopathy, A First Resort!
What would life have been like back then if my family had only known about homeopathy! Homeopathic treatment for dental issues is a wonderfully safe and effective FIRST resort. Dental abscesses, tooth pain, canker sores, ulcers and even mouth cancers can be resolved with those sweet sugar pills…I mean, with homeopathic remedies (well…isn’t that what the skeptics call them?! Placebo, sugar pills, hogwash, voodoo…you name it, we just laugh cause we know better!).
Personally, I’ll take my chances ANY DAY with a medicine that is not going to cause harm to my body and mind vs. one that has a laundry-list of dangerous and long-term side effects! You will have to decide for yourselves.
Simple Solutions
When the symptoms match, a well chosen homeopathic remedy can make all the difference! And the pain of braces is easily treatable with homeopathic remedies right in your own home. Since homeopathy has no adverse side effects, the worst that will happen is the remedy doesn’t work for you! Remember, if one remedy doesn’t work after a few doses, then you can safely move on to another choice from the list below. If self-treatment fails you, you can call for an “acute appointment” by a professional. Failure in self-treatment, does not disprove homeopathy’s effectiveness. It takes a practitioner YEARS of training, study and clinical experience to be a good homeopathic prescriber!

Homeopathic Remedies For Braces Pain And Their Indications
Arnica montana
–For aching pains and bruised soreness. When there is swelling of the gums or face after realignment. Useful for pressive headache after realignment and/or aching over eyes and/or temples.
Hypericum perfoliatum
– For nerve pain. Used for excessive painfulness or very painful sore parts after realignment. Indicated for spasms of the jaw after realignment. Also helpful for shooting pains in the teeth or jaw after realignment. Can ease pain of abrasions to inside of mouth. Consider Hypericum as “the Arnica of the nerves!”
Staphysagria
– For oversensitive teeth. You may see that all the senses are overly stimulated or “irritable” – touch, taste, smell, etc. after realignment. Useful for drawing or tearing pains in the roots of teeth.
Calendula tincture
– For cuts, irritations and sores from braces, wires and other appliances – use as a mouthwash. A great antiseptic, used topically in the tincture form diluted 1 to 10 (or 20) in water. Prevents infection, promotes healing and eases pain of ulcers/lesions. Great to use as a dental “swish” to promote gum health, too! Also, apply externally in diluted form to cuts, scrapes, abrasions and acne!
Additional Homeopathic Tip
After X-rays:
In addition to treating your pain, abscesses and other complications from having orthodontic work done, you can use homeopathic X-ray 30C to help counteract the harmful effects of having the X-ray. According to the late Dr. John W. Gofman, Professor Emeritus of Molecular and Cell Biology at University of California at Berkeley USA, even one X-ray can cause cancer. (read more about him here)
Food For Thought
I think it is worth mentioning when you search through the homeopathic literature, several homeopaths report their clinical successes with constitutional homeopathic treatment helping properly reposition teeth or help hold re-alignments.
Why is this? It would seem that mal-positioning of the teeth and jaw is a symptom. Removing a dyscrasia like this with homeopathic treatment takes long-term constitutional treatment by a trained homeopathic provider. You will reap more than nice teeth from this kind of treatment!
